3 Step Method To Update QuickBook Software

If you run QuickBooks accounting software, then you must know that to get the maximum benefit out of the software you have to periodically update it. Intuit, the company who owns QuickBooks, facilitates three methods on how you can update QuickBooks from the Internet. You just need an internet connection for this.

Automatic Update Method

QuickBooks is originally built to download latest updates or patches by default. This method allows QuickBooks to periodically check the Intuit server for latest updates and download the necessary information eventually, whenever your Internet connection is relatively fast to use. Until you disable the automatic update option, QuickBooks would continue to upgrade itself whenever a new patch is released.

For enabling or disabling the Automatic Update option:

1. In the Help menu, click Update QuickBooks.
2. Click the options tab in this window.
3. You can select yes or no button to enable or disable the Automatic Update option respectively.
4. On enabling the Automatic Update option, you have the option to select the updates you want to receive while clearing the updates that you do not want to receive in the update section.
5. Click Save and then click Close.

Immediate Update Method

This method allows you to immediately upgrade the QB from the Intuit server to your computer. It does not matter whether QB is open or not.

Even if Automatic Update is enabled, you can still proceed with the immediately download. It is advised to periodically check for updates at least once a month.

You can use the following steps to apply this method

1. Again, in the Help menu, click the “Update QuickBooks”
2. Select the updates to download and click Get Updates.
3. To see the new improvements in QB, go to Updates column and click the Maintenance Releases link.
4. A page is displayed that lists the improvements in the patch.
5. Your QB version would decide whether to install the patch now or the next time you start the software.
6. When this happens, click Install Now or Yes to install the improvement patch. Restart your computer after installation.
7. However, you cannot install Maintenance releases automatically. For installing maintenance release, close and reopen QB and then click Install Now.

Release Download

If you are having trouble to download the improvement patch with the update feature, you can use this method to download and install available updates. If there are multiple copies of QuickBooks, make sure that you update them all because it may not be able to open your company file(s).

Updates for Multi-User Mode in QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Premier

If you have QB Pro or Premier in multi-user mode installed in your system, then you need to install the patch individually on each desktop that has either of the two installed on it.

 Either you need to connect each computer to net that has QB installed on it, or you can download the update to a single system and share it across your network.

For sharing an update on your network, you must complete the following steps:

1. Open the shared company file and go to the help menu to click Update QuickBooks.
2. Click the options tab and Set the share Download option to yes.
3. Click the Save button.
